Collaborations 2 : Carpenters Workshop Jewellery
From Functional Art to Collectible Design, Carpenters Workshop Gallery produces and exhibits limited edition works by international artists or designers, both rising and established, going outside their traditional territories of expression. Actively involved in the research and production of exclusive collections, the gallery’s choices are guided by seeking an emotional, artistic and historical relevance.
“We focus our energy on that rare moment where design becomes art, creating and exhibiting sculptural objects that provoke an emotional response,” say the Carpenters Workshop founders Loïc Le Gaillard & Julien Lombrail. “Collectible design meets the expectations of a select clientele who seek beautifully crafted and designed functional pieces.” The gallery launched their Carpenters Workshop Jewellery programme in 2019, commissioning four designers to create new work, bringing a similar commitment to innovation, superlative craftsmanship and creative integrity as their stable of product designers. “We believe that the universe of jewellery has space for an approach that privileges its design as a collectible artform,” suggests Le Gaillard. Alice was honoured to be selected as one of those four practitioners.
For Carpenters Workshop Gallery, Alice has created TOTEM, a collection inspired by her enduring interest in the work of Ettore Sottsass, in particular his ceramic pieces that draw on similar themes of ritual and sacred architecture. Woven throughout are the colours and tones of Eileen Gray’s lacquer screens. TOTEM is composed by playful totemic rings, handcrafted in London in the workshop of one of Hatton Garden’s last pattern makers and enamelled by one of London finest enamel innovators. The TOTEM collection is exclusively made for Carpenters Workshop Gallery in limited edition of 8.
Carpenters Workshop Jewellery is also one of two exclusive retailers of Alice’s Jacobean collection.
